Ivy Chiu

Born in Taiwan, raised in Texas, Ivy Chiu is a queer, nonbinary Director of Photography.

From camera choreography to actor blocking, Ivy specializes in movement based, emotion driven pieces—whether it be intimate handheld or precise telescopic cranes. As an artist, they also move seamlessly between genres—shooting commercials for regular clients like Meta and Dell, collaborating with narrative directors such as Richard Linklater and Ed Harris, contributing photography to Oscar-nominated documentary Boys State. You’ve seen their work at SXSW, Tribeca, Sundance, on TV and streaming platforms.

No stranger to travel and adventure, Ivy has shot fly fishing while neck-deep in the Pacific Ocean, been detained by militia for drone work in Mongolia, and swam to Kalalau Valley floating camera equipment to shore. They approach photography with a keen eye, steady hand, and open mind to the flow.

As an immigrant and bicultural filmmaker, Ivy sees people through a prismatic lens, holding ample space for those in front of and behind the camera. They center curiosity, compassion, and play at the heart of their philosophy.
